Q&A: Do I have to now clean out my old goldfish tank entirely before adding new fish?
Question by Orla: Do I have to now clean out my old goldfish tank entirely before adding new fish?
I have recently purchased a new fish tank slightly bigger than my old 95l. I have my moved my goldfish into this new tank & have decided that I would like to give keeping tropical fish a go. However my old fish tank is still full of water, filter on, heater installed etc etc. Would I have to clean out this old fish tank and start over before adding tropical fish, or would they be okay going into this older tank if I did a slight water change?
I haven’t been using a heater for my goldfish, I only just installed it this week to heat the water for the tropical fish I intend on keeping
I’ll definately research before I buy any tropical fish.

A 50% water change should be fine, you want to keep the tank cycled after all. If you take out all the water you’d have to cycle it again before you get new fish.

How many times should I feed my goldfish per day?
Question by atvrider35: How many times should I feed my goldfish per day?
I won a goldfish from the fair yesterday, so I went to walmart and bought it some tetracolor tropical flakes and i fed it to him that night. Should i feed it 2 or 3 times a day. I did some research and some people say 2, some say 3. the container says to feed 2-3 times a day. So should i feed it twice or three times? And tips for taking care of my fish would be great!

If your fish is in a small tank, you should only feed it once a day because they are really messy! They poo ALOT! You could feed them up to 2 times a day if you’re willing to clean the tank more often. The container says feed it 2-3 times a day because they want you to use more and buy more. Once is enough!

Q&A: Small comet goldfish care?
Question by Hannah Babbs: Small comet goldfish care?
Do these fish act aggressively? Do they like warmer water? What do they eat? Are they okay in a 40 gallon tank with a bunch of other sorts of tropical fish? How long do they live? Will just one get lonely? Tips for caring for them? Thanks! Feel free to add any more info!

they aren’t aggressive. they do NOT like warm water. they eat goldfish flakes. they cannot go in a tropical tank, because they do not like warm water. they will live 30+ years if you take care of them. they will not get lonely.
give him to a pet store unless you can buy him at least his own 30 gallon.

Q&A: Daughter won a goldfish at the fair – need tips on basic goldfish care?
Question by Melissa: Daughter won a goldfish at the fair – need tips on basic goldfish care?
Right now the fish is in a fishbowl – I know that’s not good, but it’s all I have right now – but I am planning on getting a fish tank when I get off work. What size do I need for one goldfish? Any other advice would be appreciated as well. Thank you.
One more thing. I sent my husband to the store for goldfish food and he came back with tropical fish food – the flakes. Will this be ok to use for now?
and if we plan on putting one more goldfish in the tank, what size should it be for two fish? We would never have more than two.
Do goldfish normally get along with one another or do they sometimes fight?

The goldfish will not survive too long if you keep it in the fish bowl. I tell you this from experience. In the meantime, make sure that you replace the water daily or as many times as you need to when you see it’s dirty (after it poops…lol).
Don’t over feed it. Make sure you watch her when she feeds it. It should be only a pinch a few times a day.
Good luck!

My 20 gallon long is where I have the catfish.
Rapheal pictus glass and albino cory.
They are bottom dwellers and I think they enjoy having the survace area at the bottom.

Looking for indepth Goldfish & Tropical fish websites?
Question by spear_of_goth: Looking for indepth Goldfish & Tropical fish websites?
Hi , I work in retail and my job is to take care of these fish. So I want to do it right , they send us new fish in and give no information. And really I seem to be the only person interested in proper feeding and water condition. And after trying to search for individual fish online I haven’t really found the information I need. I need what each fish eats , and their water conditions. So I can better guide customers as to what they must do to properly care for their new friends. All people here do is toss in flakes , and I know not everything eats flakes so I ask to store-use some items. for fish I know what they eat.
The fish I tend are both Goldfish and Tropical fish. The Golds are from Black Moors to Butterfly Koi , the Tropicals are all over the place , we have Fancy Oscars, Purple Parrots ,Dragon-fish,Mollies , several kinds Gourami, neon Tetras and Puffers…and that’s not all mind you just a short list.
Please if there is a good in depth website out there with a searchable database that would be awesome. I wanna make a fish data book for my fellow coworkers to safeguard my buddies when Im gone…so Ill need all the info I can get my hands on ..but nothin to scientific just their needs and what it takes to make em happy.
