I have a 40 gallon freshwater tank with the following:
Two angels (full grown veil tails)
some gold tetras (4-5)
4-5 white cloud minnows
a gold ram
a BIG pleco (he’s survived three tanks so far and he’s about 7-8″ long!)
a cat shark
3 threadfin rainbows (beautiful fish if you can find them, full grown they’re just a little bigger than a guppy and the males have very pretty dorsal fins they flare up when they are excited, and their other fins have long black tips)
I lose count of the tetras and white clouds because they never sit still long enough for me to count them!
I also have live plants. I can’t stand fake plants. And natural tan peagravel as a substrate. I haven’t lost any fish in quite awhile and they all get along very well.

55 Gallon Fish Tank (Tropical Community) + Plants
I do realize this tank is overpopulated, even if I do a 35% water change a week it will still be bad to have so many fish, but I know these tropical fish do not grow too big! I hope you enjoy this video of my 55 gallon fish tank. Here is the list of the fish I have, and the number of fishes. 2. Walmart Fish: Dont know the name 2. Bala Sharks 3. Dalmatian Mollys 4. Black Mollys 3. Yellow Mollys 3. Red Platys 2. Plascostamous 1. Rainbow Shark 1. Gosh Shrimp 6. Babies =D

Are cichlids harder to take care of than small tropical community fish?
Question by Miss Meagan: Are cichlids harder to take care of than small tropical community fish?
I have a 20 gallon tank which currently contains a few tetras and danios. I’ve had this tank for several years now, and the only reason it only has a few “starter” fish in it is so that my faily doesn’t have to work much about them while I’m away at school. But in the past it’s been a fairly intermediate system, so I’m used to checking water chemistry and things like that. I really want to change it into some kind of cichlid aquarium, but don’t know much about cichlid care. However, I’ve been doing a little bit of research, and it seems pretty straightfoward. My main concern is that 20 gallons isn’t really enough water for them. Any advice or suggestions? thanks.

They are not really harder to keep it’s just that cichlids are aggressive and you have to be careful what you put with them. (even other ciclids) The smaller the tank the fewer the fish. size of the fish is also important.

Q&A: what are some unusual, colorful community fish for a tropical aquarium?
Question by Amie: what are some unusual, colorful community fish for a tropical aquarium?
I’m an intermediate level aquariast. I currently have a rope fish, a guorami, and a plecto catfish. I’d like to add some colorful fish to my community tank, but something a little different rom danios, tetras, platys, etc. Another subquestion is that I have read in a few places that some colorful species of cichlids in the right numbers can co-exist peacefully. We split tanks, etc. so now overcrowding lectures (not to sound uppity or mean) but I usually get that and I know better. We either split aquariums or trade fish who have become too large for our system(s) to a reputable local pet shop. Suggestions? Thanks!!!
